Effects of High cholesterol

The increasing level of cholesterol can cause atherosclerosis, it can cause narrowing and hardening of your arteries, it can cause angina, coronary heart disease, heart attack and heart block. Checking the level of cholesterol in your blood is an easy way to keep your hearth healthy and safe. The role of cholesterol in our body is to building blocks in the structure of cells, making hormone and producing energy. However, our eating habit play crucial role in determining the lever of cholesterol in our blood stream but it mainly depends on how the body makes cholesterol in liver.

There are two types of cholesterol found in our body it is HDL (high-density lipoprotein) it is also called as good cholesterol and LDL (lower density lipoprotein) also known as bad cholesterol. GDL play crucial role in keeping heart healthy and protect it from atherosclerosis, where as LDL cause cardiovascular disease.

It is a fact that the level of cholesterol rises in bloodstreams with age, and females have higher level of good cholesterol (HDL) in comparison to their male counterparts.

The ideal level of cholesterol in blood is less than 5mmol/l. If it is between 5 to 6.4 mmol/l then it shows mildly high cholesterol level. Cholesterol level ranging between 6.5 to7.8 mmol/l indicates moderately high level of cholesterol and if it is above 7.8 mmol/l then it is really a threatening sign for your health.

To keep your heart healthy, follow a healthy life style. Recent studies have shown that smoking may cause heart attack. Alcohol though good for heart if consume in moderate amount but the excessive usage of alcohol can cause high blood pressure and damage to liver. To lower the level of LDL in your body one must follow proper diet along with exercise.
